Coordination

For most children, gaining the small and big coordination skills is an automatic process. To perform any motor skill a child must first think and plan an activity in their mind before accurately making the movement; this is more complex than it seems. When this does not occur as expected, children can become frustrated, embarrassed and lose confidence in themselves and their abilities.

Coordination and balance can be divided into either fine motor or gross motor skills. Issues with fine motor activities may include challenges with written schoolwork, coordinating the use of silverware, brushing teeth and using fasteners on clothing. Gross motor skills involve balancing, running, jumping, catching, hitting, kicking, bouncing a ball, and climbing.
